I’ve got some exciting news about the classes that I’ll be teaching at the Create Mixed Media Retreat in Costa Mesa, in Southern California, this coming May!
Both my classes will have 18 Bernina sewing machines available to use during the entire class!
Even if the class makes it’s upper limit of 25, that’s still enough sewing machines to go around, because a large part of making the bag is cutting, fusing and pinning. So if you were thinking about attending but didn’t want to lug your machine, well Bob’s your Uncle, now you don’t have to!
As a reminder, I’ll be teaching:
For the Birds Messenger Bag
You will construct a multi-pocketed, extremely functional messenger bag that features a small art quilt with a bird motif on the flap (I will provide other design suggestions as well). The bags are constructed from hand dyed canvas, wear like iron, and are a unique piece of “everyday art” you’ll use for years.
When: Wednesday, May 18 from 9-4
Price: $150.00 Materials Fee: $30.00
Simply Beautiful Tote
You will construct a very simple, reversible tote bag that features a beautifully hand dyed piece of fabric and is lined with a coordinated single color hand-dyed piece. Some simple machine quilting will give it strength and support. There are a couple of pockets and a key leash, and an ingenious construction method easily hides all the raw edges easily.
When: Friday, May 20, 9-noon
Price: $75.00 Materials Fee: $18.00
All sorts of details are available on the website. Hope I see some bloggy friends there!

Both bags are so pretty. I love the fabric used for the tote bag.
I would love to take the messenger bag class! You are just going to have to travel to the east coast to teach.
