Last July, I came up with a new (at least to me), fast way to mount small art quilts on the wall while working on my Mood Indigo show. I’m quickly facing them with the help of fusible hem tape and then mounting them with velcro on a piece of plywood that’s smaller than the quilt so that it stands proud of the wall and is supported, but yet the support doesn’t show:
I was so chuffed with this idea that I pitched a magazine article to the folks at Quilting Arts and it’s now in the August/September 2017 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine (find the print version here and the digital version here).
Those fabulous quilts on the cover are by Ana Buzzalino in an article about using FMQ to add text to art quilts.I especially like how she intersperses matchstick quilting with text!
My article has lots of helpful process pictures:
I love how they staged the finished quilts I sent on a shiplap wall!
Here’s a closeup of a couple more that I made:
And three of my wonky skeleton trees:
If you like making small art quilts, this may be just the finishing and hanging technique you’ve been looking for!!!
