Here’s week two in Vicki Welsh’s REAL Studio Tour.
This week, we’re all going to talk our favorite storage solutions. For me, it’s covered plastic boxes! Here in Redlands, it’s dusty, well dirty! I open the windows in my studio a LOT, it’s the hottest room in the house. Lots of dirt gets blown in, and I’ve discovered that it blows in lots of dirt. Most of the boxes I use are Sterilite, this size. They’re big enough to hold several yards of fabric, but not so big that fabric gets totally lost in the bottom. They are also inexpensive, so I can buy a bunch without spending a bunch! This way, when I find a way to stash a bunch of these, I can swap out one I need for one that’s holding a certain group of fabrics or a particular UFO that I’m not working on. I stack a bunch of these in the closet:
But the boxes I use the most often are stored in a special storage cart by hubby and I built to fit them!
This cart also hols an ironing board, in front of which I spend a lot of time.
I’ve discovered that for me, it was worth it to buy boxes that are the same size – they stack neatly on top of one another, and again, make it easy to swap one out for the other, so I can keep the things I use the most often out where they can be easily reached!
Ooh, have you entered my Giveaway? The last day is today, so go leave a comment here!
Now head on over to Vicki Welsh’s REAL Studio Tour to see what otherfavorite storage solutions people have!

What really caught my eye was the device you have for holding the PFD roll of fabric! Storage and dispenser. Awesome!
You can’t beat clear plastic boxes! I don’t know what we would do without them. I’ve invested a lot at Dollar General in these boxes. But I also love that you have your iron hanging on the wall. That is brilliant!
Clear plastic boxes seem to be the order of the day. I have been using them for years and I am beginning to see a good way to solve the problems of boxes not fitting the shelf space is to build not buy new shelves.
Yes, I agree that spending a bit for uniformity is well worth the money! Good stuff!
Having boxes that are uniform in size is definitely the way to go.
This is exactly what I was going to show for the studio tour! I love those Sterilite plastic storage bins. I have stacks in the closet of my sewing room. Most have white lids and labels as to what is inside. One stack has blue lids, these are filled with my UFO projects.
Now to decide which other storage solution I want to share on Vicki’s blog.
I love the cart your hubby made and I also am a huge fan of plastic interchangeable containers. Thanks for sharing!
Great storage! And another handy hubby. Stacking containers are really great, aren’t then!?
Fabulous storage solution!
